PDP’s Ighodalo Calls 2024 Edo Governorship Election the Worst in Nigeria’s History

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday, Asue Ighodalo, has expressed concerns over alleged widespread irregularities during the voting process. He characterized the election as possibly the worst in Nigeria’s history.

During a press briefing at the PDP Situation Room in Benin City on Sunday, Ighodalo highlighted several issues that, according to him, could undermine the credibility of the election. He specifically pointed to the barring of PDP agents from the Collation Centre, a move he believes is detrimental to Nigeria’s democratic process.

\”From our perspective, the way these elections are going, they’re probably going to be the worst in the history of this country,\” Ighodalo remarked.

Ighodalo further raised alarm over discrepancies in voter figures, citing over 20 polling units where the total votes recorded exceeded the number of accredited voters. He described such results as \”impossible\” and \”totally unacceptable,\” hinting at what he called a \”result-writing scheme.\”

\”There’s something definitely going wrong. This process is unacceptable, and they are trying to disenfranchise our Collation Agents,\” he said.

Ighodalo also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of using violence to intimidate voters and polling agents, alleging that thugs, supported by individuals in security uniforms, were disrupting the election process in multiple areas.

\”This is not acceptable in the 21st century, especially not in Nigeria. We’ve moved beyond this,\” Ighodalo concluded.
